Short Term Training Course on DROSOPHILA BIOLOGY AND NANOBIOTECHNOLOGY (STTC Programme for Mid Career Scientist/UG & PG Teaching Faculty) | 6-20 April 2021

12th April 2021, Greater Noida: The Department of Biotechnology at NOIDA Institute of Engineering & Technology (NIET) hosted a focused training course from April 6th to April 20th, 2021, on “Drosophila Biology and Nanobiotechnology: An Emerging Research Area for Assessing Nanomaterial Interaction with Living Organisms for Biological and Pharmacological Investigations.” Sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, this program aimed to educate mid-career scientists and teaching faculty at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels about the application of Drosophila in genetic research, particularly within the realms of biological sciences, health, and nanoscience. Assistant Professor Abhijit Debnath from NIET Pharmacy Institute, Greater Noida, led the workshop with a detailed discourse on the toxicity assessment of nanoparticle-based drug development using the Drosophila model. His talk spanned the journey of drug discovery and development, the integral role of nanoparticles, challenges posed by nanotoxicity, and the methodologies for assessing nanoparticle toxicity in Drosophila. Coordinated by Dr. Pankaj Kumar Tyagi, the course director, the event stood out as a significant stride towards understanding nanomaterials’ interactions with biological systems, enhancing the participants’ competencies in cutting-edge nanobiotechnology research.
